Throughout her lifetime, Ann E. Pitzer, Pitzer College trustee and granddaughter of the College’s founder, supported a wide variety of initiatives, projects and programs that positively and deeply affected students, faculty and others within the Pitzer community. Her service to Pitzer College was exemplary, and in a final demonstration of her deep-rooted affection for Pitzer College and her unwavering belief in its mission, she established two endowed funds through a $2 million bequest made in her living trust shortly before she passed away in October 2014.
From this generous bequest and because of Ann's longstanding belief in the value of learning about other cultures, funds were designated to establish the Ann E. Pitzer Director of International Programs to provide support in perpetuity to Pitzer’s thriving study abroad and international programs. U.S.News & World Report 2015 Best Colleges report ranked Pitzer #7 in the nation for most students studying abroad, and Ann’s gift ensures that this thriving, life-changing program will have solid oversight far into the future.
To honor the longstanding service and support that her brother, Russell M. Pitzer, has provided to Pitzer College over the years, Ann’s bequest designated $100,000 to establish the Russell M. Pitzer Endowed Scholarship. Of all the gifts one can bestow on a college, there is no gift that has a greater impact on students than scholarships. Financial aid is at the heart of making education affordable and dreams attainable; it removes barriers and presents opportunities. Through her bequest, Ann helped make sure that future generations of students, regardless of financial circumstance, have the support needed to access a world-class Pitzer College education.
The legacy of Ann Pitzer and her spirit of philanthropy will continue to impact members of the Pitzer community forever through her generous bequest that established these endowed funds.
