Donor Spotlight: Ali Jennings ’69

Ali JenningsAlice “Ali” Jennings ’69 fondly recalls when Pitzer College was just “two buildings and a dirt heap.” She was there at the onset of Pitzer College, having received her bachelor’s degree in music and literature in 1969, just six years after the founding of the College.

She is very fond of her time as a student and greatly appreciated the college administration, remembering how they helped shape her major, allowed her to study with Alice Shapiro—who was an artist in residence at Scripps—and provided the opportunity to take music history and theory courses. She also recalls how active the students were, and continue to be, in voicing their opinions and feelings, and how they were allowed safe spaces in which to do so.

Ali fervently believes in the mission and core values of Pitzer, stating: “Pitzer is such a unique place. I’m excited for the experiences that students have there. They will leave as better and more well-rounded individuals.”

She urges donors to “give generously and give back, so that students can continue having these unique experiences that will allow them the freedom to move and grow.”

Ali JenningsA tremendous, longstanding supporter of Pitzer College, Ali supports the College with annual donations, giving challenges, entrusting Pitzer College in her will and continuing to give the gift of time as an alumna. A frequent attendee of welcome receptions, she has missed only one of her class reunions. She is well-known in the community for her scrapbooks with printed photographs and various mementos of her time as a student. She recommends to students that they “take pictures and print them, keep a copy of a program or write in a journal about a memory or an impression you had—it’s nice to look back at a tangible part of your history and time there at Pitzer.”

Pitzer College is fortunate to have Ali as such a strong advocate and is grateful for her support in providing a robust and excellent educational and life experience.
